The London Planetarium and Madame Tussaud's waxwork museum are situated on the Marylebone Road, adjacent to Baker Street underground station and the Sherlock Holmes museum, dedicated to the fictional detective created by the author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lies on Baker Street itself. So famous are the mysteries of Sherlock Holmes, that a life-size statue has been errected outsite the entrance to Baker Street station.

Further to the west lies Marylebone High Street where a community atmosphere exists and continental cafe culture prevails. Jasper Conran has one of his outlets on the High Street and quiet mews lie discreetly inbetween large town houses and apartments.

Although officially part of the city of Westminster, with all of its bustle and activity, Marylebone retains a distinctly small-town atmosphere, with lots of small shopsn pubs and restaurants.
