Selling a property? Energy efficiency and broadband connectivity are key for buyers, new research shows

It’s not all about location, location, location. New research from GoCompare Home Insurance reveals that energy efficiency and good broadband activity are becoming an increasing priority for property buyers.

According to a study carried out by GoCompare, a not inconsiderable 82% of buyers place a high value on efficient central heating. And following on the energy efficiency theme, 80% of buyers look for double-glazing.  

Reliable broadband, good mobile signal, and secure exits and entrances are also a high priority for buyers. This compares with 58% who want good local shops and amenities on the doorstep, indicating that location is less of a deciding factor than it used to be.   

59% of buyers are looking for a property with plenty of electrical power sockets. As many of us own more electrical equipment than ever before, this is understandable, and some properties which haven’t been modernised for many years are often lacking in electrical sockets.  

The study also revealed the factors which property buyers now view less highly. Some were surprising, with the study showing that only 13% consider good local schools important, while as few as 5% want period features.  

Though the results of the study are revealing in that they show buyers are placing greater emphasis on the importance of energy efficient, secure properties with good broadband connection, many buyers will likely still be guided by proximity to good amenities and schools – all of which are available to West End property buyers.
